How card-based funding works
Some funding partners advance a lump sum and collect repayment as a percentage of future card sales, often called a merchant cash advance. Others offer term loans or lines of credit. Approval is often based on your sales history rather than only your credit score, which can make it faster to obtain than a bank loan.
That speed often costs more. A merchant cash advance is usually not a loan, and its cost is expressed as a factor rate rather than an APR, which makes it easy to underestimate. Before accepting any offer, compare the total payback amount, the daily or weekly remittance, and what happens if sales slow down.
Before you accept any funding offer
Questions worth asking any funder, including the ones we refer you to.
What's the total payback?
Advance amount times factor rate, plus any fees.
How is it collected?
Percentage of card sales, or a fixed daily or weekly debit.
What's the effective cost?
Ask for an estimated APR equivalent so you can compare.
What are the fees?
Origination, underwriting or early payoff terms.
What if sales drop?
Whether remittances adjust with your sales.
Do you really need it?
Sometimes lower processing costs free up cash without new debt.

Frequently asked questions
Will you pressure me to take funding?
No. If lowering your processing costs or adjusting payment terms solves the cash flow problem, that's a better answer.
Do you get paid for referrals?
We may receive a referral fee from a funding partner. Ask us and we'll tell you.
What do funders usually need?
Typically a few months of business bank statements and processing statements, time in business and basic ownership information. Requirements vary.
